Illustration Friday – Zoom!

Does anyone remember the little book, The Monster at the End of this Book with Grover from Sesame Street? I loved it and now my son loves it. Just the other day I realized the entire book is hand lettered. This entry is inspired by the artwork in that book.

I’m also starting to learn how to color drawings in Photoshop. I’d like to find a really great tutorial, but I’m pretty overwhelmed with the choices. Anyone use one that was particularly good?

This week, I fell back on my calligraphy pens instead of illustration. But, it’s decorative and it’s hand lettering, so I’m still going to put it up on Illustration Friday. I do love how this turned out. Usually, I don’t plan my flourishes in pencil first, so I tried it and really like how it came out.

This week, the quote came to me immediately, but sometimes it’s hard to think of what to write. Do you have any quotes you’d like to see done in calligraphy? Leave comments!

Previous Illustration Friday Topic – Mirror

Earlier in the month, I submitted an Illustration Friday entry for the topic, Mirror. I posted the pic to Facebook because I was out of town and didn’t have all my blog passwords. (Note: fix that!) Anyway, I used calligraphy lettering to make an awesome cutout. I love this one! I think it looks like a giant creepy bug. I hope I can love my future entries this much!

Happy Halloween!

I’ve decided to start participating in Illustration Friday. I hope this can help me:

Practice new types of lettering
In the future, learn Photoshop and Illustrator
Learn how to work quickly under a deadline
Build a lettering illustration portfolio.

I’ll be either lettering the actual Illustration Friday inspiration word, or a quotation surrounding the idea. I’d like to say that I must do them during my Friday work hours, but with so many calligraphy jobs this month, that wouldn’t work. So, my big constraint: I must have a rough sketch on Friday, and finish the artwork enough to post by the following Thursday. This week’s topic is: HAUNT.

Originally, I planned to fill in the letters, but I really like just the outline. I’ll probably try filling in at some point, just to see – maybe I’ll make a second drawing…
